A prayer of Saint Anselm

O my God, teach my heart where and how to seek You,
where and how to find You.
You are my God and You are my all and I have never seen You.
You have made me and remade me,
You have bestowed on me all the good things I possess,
Still I do not know You.
I have not yet done that for which I was made.
Teach me to seek You.
I have not yet done that for which I was made.
Teach me to seek You.
I cannot seek You unless You teach me
or find You unless You show Yourself to me.
Let me seek You in my desire,
let me desire You in my seeking.
Let me find You by loving You,
let me love You when I find You.

Water, Oil, and Life: getting ready for Baptism

Have you shared the joy of welcoming a new life into the Body of Christ here at Saint Anselm’s at a baptism?  This is one of the best moments in the life of a family and in the life of the whole church. It is time for us to deepen and enrich the experience of families asking for the baptism of their children.  Every eight weeks we will have a baptismal preparation meeting for families planning to baptize, whether their child is already born or on the way. This single session will include knowledge about the church’s understanding of Baptism through the years, but also an invitation to enter together into the great gift this sacrament proclaims and shares.  Since Baptism brings us entry into the community of Christ, it is right that the community walk with the families as they prepare. Would you be interested in becoming part of our baptismal preparation team? We need grandparents, recent parents who have baptized a child within these recent years, and big brothers and sisters of baptismal babies. Training will be provided.  Our first experience with families will be in preparation for Eastertide. Since we will meet every other month from then on, no ‘heavy lifting’ is required, just a love of Christ, the Church, family, and babies. If you want to know more, email or talk to Father John (jmcginty@stanselmsofshoreham.org).  We will plan an initial exploratory meeting between now and Ash Wednesday.  Thank you for considering this invitation!

Mom’s Together - a new group forming in 2019

Being a Mom is really important. It’s sometimes really wonderful, and sometimes really hard. Mom’s supporting each other and sharing good news can be a real delight. Saint Anselm’s will be forming a Mom’s Together group, aiming to bring together mom’s with young kids at home and in school. We will be sharing more information soon, but spread the word already to moms you know. It’s not necessary to belong to the parish to join the group. More to come . . .

Holy Graffiti

This summer generous parishioners and friends have been repainting our building.
Along the way, a wise rector in the diocese suggested inviting church members to write their hopes, memories, prayers on the shingles of the church before they would be painted.
Beautiful messages appeared! Here are some of them. You could call them holy graffiti.
