And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.
~ Saint Paul's second letter to the Corinthians 8:1-5
We all have something to give
We may have dollars to spare. We may have expertise, talent, experience, or time. We may be able to leave a part of our worldly goods to support our parish as we leave this world. All these ways of giving and more help Saint Anselm's to carry on and deepen its mission. Here we will outline some of the ways we might consider to offer our own unique support.
Why Pledge?
Our tradition is that we commit ourselves once each year to give all year. Lifelong Episcopalians, and many of our sisters and brothers in other churches, are accustomed to hearing a lot about giving and pledging during the fall season, leading up to a season of pledging. The purpose is to raise our awareness and to move us to the generosity that is within us.
In truth, the aim of pledging is to provide for the church's mission year-round. We pledge so that planning is possible. So those in church leadership can use resources wisely to assist those in need, to hire responsibly, to divide what we give in a manner that reflects the values Jesus annunciates in the Gospel. And yes, planning also helps in the mundane work of making sure that the resources of buliding and grounds and 'stuff' that we have is cared for well and ready always for service.
Nowadays, new technologies in the palm of our hands are making it possible for us to respond at a moment's notice to an impulse to give. Here on this page we will offer and update resources and inspiration as old as Scripture and as new as this morning's news.
Please know always that your generous giving allows Saint Anselm's not only to survive but to thrive, and to be a sign in our midst of the living love of Christ. Thank you!
Giving Online | staying connected
It is possible to automate your giving online. At church on Sunday you can drop into the plate one of our cards testifying that the gift has been given! You can change the frequency and amount of gift as needed or desired. Online giving really helps maintain church financial support through fallow seasons of the year.
To learn more and get set up to give online, call Director of Parish Administration Barbara Dougherty at 631.744.7730 or email to [email protected]. And thank you!
